Welcome to the Spinal Cord Injury resource site, created by Burg Simpson law firm. This site is meant to be a basic introduction to spinal cord injury, what causes spinal cord injury, and what to expect if you’ve been injured or for those taking care of someone who has received a traumatic SCI.
A traumatic spine injury doesn’t just make basic physical activities like walking or driving more difficult. SCIs affect a person’s entire life, as well as the lives of their friends and family. Family relationships, emotional well-being, and the ability to hold a job can all be affected by a sudden SCI. Even when the spinal cord damage is low-level, those affected undergo a life-altering shift in how daily life is experienced and understood.
Traumatic SCIs are especially bad. Traumatic spinal cord injuries make up the larger part of all SCIs, and are frequently caused by the fault or negligence of others—often in a very violent, sudden way. This includes neck injuries from a car crash, complications from pelvic damage gained by a fall in an unsafe environment and more. That pain lives with the victim & their family for a long time. On top of that, the family has to make decisions about medical care, the psychological well-being of those involved, insurance, what the family can afford and whether or not to contact an injury lawyer while they are trying to grieve and help a loved one adjust to new limitations. It is often a life-altering and incredibly isolating experience.
By providing information about & resources for spinal cord injury, as well as suggestions on where to interact with the over 250,000 people in America living with the aftermath of traumatic spinal cord injury, we hope to remind those whose lives have been changed by an SCI that they are not alone. We also hope to provide patients & their family with the tools & assistance they need to take control of their situation & keep their patient & civil rights protected.
